Printed in the UK. Robert Sayer and John Bennett. 1776. First state. Framed. 49 x 67 cm. Hand coloured. Title cartouche illustrated with rocky outcrops and waterfalls. Two insets: "A Particular Survey of the Isles of Montreal," and "The City of Quebec." Slight centerfold line. The first state of this map with the line "London Printed for Robt. Sayer and John Bennet Map and Printsellers No. 53 in Fleet Street as the Act directs 16th February 1776." engraved under the neat-line. Subsequent states have this line removed and change the wording in the title cartouche. This map appears in five separate books: "The North American Atlas" London William Faden 1777, and in this first four editions of Robert Sayer and John Bennett's "The American Atlas" (1776, 1777, 1778, 1783). It is unclear which volume this map originated from. A vibrant, clean, and clear map with very little toning. Reference: Kershaw, Kenneth A., Early Printed Maps of Canada, vol. 4, #1005.. Very good.
