View of the Siege of Quebec.
Printed in the UK. S. Bladon. ND [c.1780]. First edition, second or later state. Framed. Framed engraved print. 24x16.5 cm. Hand coloured. Depicts British soldiers disembarking from a ship. This print originally was published in Charlotte Cowley's "The Ladies History of England" (1780) and was engraved by Thomas Cook (signed Cook sculp). However, Cook copied the image from Russel William Augustus's "A New and Authentic History of England" (1777), in which it was titled "The Siege of Quebec." Small details have been changed but the angle and the framing remain the same. This print lacks the title "Engraved for Cowley's History of England" in the compartment at the top and was likely printed sometime after 1780, making it second state or later. A clean and bright copy with very little age toning. Very good. Item #67684
