Illustrated with a full colour plate frontispiece of a half Cree girl, 7 full colour plates, 13 b/w in text woodcuts, and a fold-out engraved plate map in black, red, and blue. Bookplate from Standon Library pasted on the front flyleaf. Inscription on the second front flyleaf reads: "Edward Salt, from his friend George L Elliott. On his leaving Eton xmas 1863." Six compartment spine with five raised ribs. Red leather label with gilt short title pasted into compartment 2, the rest of the compartments are stamped with gilt floral ornaments. Double rule gilt border with flowers in the corners stamped on the front and back boards. Marbled edges. Marbled endpapers. Text block is bright, clean and unmarked, with some slight foxing in the front and back matter, and light age toning along the head. The back board has detached from the spine, and there are three chips in compartments 1, 3, and 5, with the largest being in compartment 1. Light shelf wear and rubbing to the boards. A handsome volume overall. Condition is fair due to the detached board otherwise it would be very good. Fair. Item #67412
