Pagination: volume I -- xviii, 384 pp; volume II -- xiii, 420 pp. Illustration: two tipped-in, full colour frontispieces, and over 150 b/w in-text engraved maps, drawings, and ornaments. Translated from Norwegian into English by Arthur G. Chater. Uniform bindings. Title, author, and semicircle illustration of a sunrise over the sea stamped in gilt on the front boards, as well as two blind stamped borders - a single line around the edges and a double line in the middle. Title, author, and volume number stamped in gilt on the spines. Unused bookplates pasted on the front pastedowns. Ownership inscription of the front flyleaf and title page of each volume. Another inscription on the colophon of volume I. Bookseller's stickers on the front pastedown and flyleaf of both volumes. Slight creases in the bottom right corners of both frontispieces. Heads darkened. Text blocks are generally clean, bright, and unmarked with only gentle age browning. Bindings are strong and square. The spines and boards are rubbed, worn around the edges and hinges, and have mildly frayed/bumped corners. Volume I has a repaired tear at the crown of the spine, and a water stain along the back head. Volume II has an ownership inscription in black ink on the front board. Good condition overall. Good.
