Hardcover 3/4 leather (maroon) over cloth (red) over boards. 8vo. xx, 620 pp. Illustrated with 58 b/w plate drawings, a b/w plate frontispiece, and a b/w engraved title page. No date. Willoughby and Co. printed at least three editions between 1848 and 1849. This particular copy has an interesting printer's error - pages 2 and 3 were never printed. Ownership inscription (illegible) on the front flyleaf dated 1928, with a second (also illegible) inscription in the top right corner of the engraved title page. Gilt ornaments, rulings, and title stamped on the spine. Marbled endpapers. Gilt head. Frontispiece and engraved title page have browned, as have some of the plates. Generally the text block is clean, unmarked, and square with a strong binding. The spine and boards are a little worn, mostly to the edges and hinges, but otherwise in good shape. Overall a very good copy. Very good. Item #67252
