Hardcover 1/4 leather (dark brown) over cloth (brown) over boards. 8vo. x, [map], 360, 10 pp. Illustrated with a b/w engraved frontispiece, 10 b/w in text engraved illustrations, a full colour, fold-out engraved map of northern Syria, and 10 fold-out calligraphic plates printed in brown. Contemporary binding. Two labels pasted on the spine: red leather with gilt title, and black leather with gilt volume number. Decorative gilt ruling on spine and boards. Blue stamp of the Quebec Literary and Historical Society appears five times in the front matter. The map of northern Syria and calligraphic plate 9 have been carefully repaired with cloth tape. Text block is darkened along the head with occasional foxing throughout the body, and some rare marginalia. Pages slightly age browned. Binding is strong and square. The spine and boards show very minor rubbing marks but are otherwise pristine. A handsome book overall. Very good. Item #67245
