Hardcover cloth (blue) over boards. 4to. xii + 96 + [83 plates] pp. Illustrated with 83 b/w and full colour plate diagrams, drawings, star charts, and photographs. Half title in a circular frame made up of zodiac signs stamped in gilt on front board. Half title with 3 angel ornaments stamped in gilt on the spine. Gilt head. Double border blind stamped on the front and back boards. Tissue guards for most of the plates. First edition was published under the title "An Atlas of Astronomy," 1892. Text block shows very minor browning. Images are clear and crisp. No markings. Binding is strong and square. The boards have slight wear to the edges and top/bottom of the spine, and lightly bumped corners. Tail of the spine faded with a tiny amount of gilt rubbed off the bottom ornament. Wrapped in a protective mylar jacket. A beautiful book that contains some rare early examples of stellar photography sourced from observatories around Europe. A handsome addition to any collection centered around the history of science and astronomy. Very Good. Item #67135
