Hardcover cloth (illustrated) over boards. 12mo. viii + 207 + [16] pp. Illustrated with b/w plate engravings and drawings. Includes 16 pages of advertisements after the main text. Original book was published in 1875; this copy is part of the "seventh thousand" print run. There are two prize certificates (one glued to the front pastedown dated 1899, one loose dated 1895) from the Protestant Board of School Commissioners, Montreal, are included in this copy. The Sunday School Union book's were meant to be given as prizes to students, as these two certificates attest to. Text block is clean, slightly browned, and has a strong binding with a minor slant to it. Front cover is illustrated with two men carrying a sedan chair in full colour with a gilt stamped title. The spine is illustrated with a woman carrying a sun shade, with a gilt stamped title. On the back is a decorative printer's device. Covers show some shelfwear to the edges, corners, and hinges. Spine shows minor wear to the top and bottom. Very good. Item #67018
