Printed in the USA. Childs and Peterson. 1856. First edition. Half leather and paper over boards. Set of two volumes. Hardcover 1/2 leather (green morocco) over paper (marbled) over boards. 8vo. Pagination: volume I -- 464 pp; volume II -- 467 pp. Illustrated with over 300  b/w in-text wood engraved and steel plates from Kane's own sketches, 2 b/w engraved portrait frontispieces, 2 b/w engraved title pages, and 2 b/w engraved folding maps. Rebound. Uniform binding. Six compartment spine with five raised ribs. Gilt short title, author, and volume number stamped in compartments two and three, with a repeating gilt ornament in the other compartments. Marbled edges. Marbled endpapers. Ink ownership inscription (W. Kucher 1859) at the top of the engraved title page and title page of both volumes. The text blocks are slightly age toned around the edges but are otherwise clean, unmarked, bright, and square with a strong binding. The spines and boards are lightly rubbed and worn. Corners bumped and frayed. Spines sunned. The green morocco leather on the corners has begun to brown. Both volumes are in very good condition overall. Very Good. Item #21017
